At 54 years of age, our club is relatively young, so we don’t really expect to have to say goodbye to any of our present or past players.
It is with deepest sympathy I have to inform you of the sad news of one of our former players passing away last week.
Mark Desborough, known as “Shinner” on the pitch was a true gentleman who would make time for everyone. Mark played for the 1st team for many seasons before going on to manage the Sunday 2’s and later the Strollers. He also served on the committee as Club Captain and was one of the legends of the club.
I knew Mark in recent years through Woody & Dom Bruneau who introduced me to the OWFC.
More recently Mark played in the club’s 50 year celebration match as well as coming down to support the Amblers in their cup final in Farnham 3 years ago.
His funeral details are posted below.
Anyone who knew him may want to join Dom on the 7th March at 7:30pm at our club, to reminisce, sign a special club shirt which will be presented to his son and generally raise a glass.
I appreciate not all of you would have known Mark, but he was one of us, so please next time you raise a glass, spare a thought for his wife, children and family.
With deepest sympathy
Matt Healy
Chairman OWFC
